| Gibbston Valley, Central Otago |

The Marshall Vineyard is owned and managed by Sue’s father Denis, who chose this site in Gibbston Valley after years of searching for a low vigor site in Central Otago that possessed the soil and climate to deliver a slow, long ripening period to grow exceptional Pinot Noir. The soils are from the ‘Pigburn’ series, they contain up to 400-500m of windblown glacial deposits, overlaid with around 4-5 meters of free draining soil. The vineyard site is between 390-490 meters above sea level and on average is likely to experience 870-930 growing degree days and regular and severe frosts in the spring and winter. Working within these parameters is challenging to say the least, however this challenging environment, combined with a dedicated small team is perfect for producing small quantities of the very best Pinot Noir.
